Bracken Hotel and Bar

Abandoned hotel and bar in Bracken, Saskatchewan.

The Bracken Hotel was your typical small-town hotel with rooms upstairs and a restaurant with a bar on the main level. We were unable to find information on when the hotel was built or when it closed but we assume the rooms were closed while the bar remained open and then it closed too.

The bar area was in the worst shape. With water damage from the roof, most of the ceiling was collapsed and sitting on pool tables. Most items were water-soaked and mold was growing throughout. There were a few checks on the register from 2006 which makes us believe this is when it closed.

The hotel portion had a main level living area which felt like a time capsule. All the furniture and contents were from the 1970's/1980's. There were also jukeboxes in great condition. The second floor of the hotel with the rooms was in good shape. Many rooms still had beds in place, furniture, little old televisions, and curtains. It looks like some renovations/repairs were being done but not completed.

We explored the hotel in 2008, the back door was open and we had to climb over rotted floorboards to get in. It was quiet inside - dead silent. It was clear not too many people had been inside as there was very little vandalism. With the smell of still water and stale air they weren't missing much. The hotel was a neat explore and was demolished a few years later from what we were told.
