Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Whitkow, Saskatchewan

Holy Spirit Parish, also known as the Holy Ghost Church was a Ukrainian Orthodox church in Whitkow, Saskatchewan. It was built in 1933 and demolished in 2013 due to a leaking dome and low funds for repairs.

Holy spirit church was constructed in 1933. The first service was held in 1934. The church gained Municipal heritage property status in 2001. It was added to the historic places of Canada registrar. This gorgeous church had one large dome, beautiful windows, archways and paintings inside. The 0bell tower was beside the church. The hall nearby the church was collapsing on my last visit a few years ago.

The church closed in 1998. Unfortunately, after sitting for years without maintenance the dome started to leak and have issues. Money to save the dome was trying to be raised but it was not enough. The decision. The decision to remove the heritage status came into play and sealed it’s fate. The church was demolished in 2013.
